Lawn mowing prices: what is fair?

A fair price for mowing depends on the size of the lawn, how hilly it is, whether edges are trimmed and whose mower is used. Here is how to work it out, whether you are hiring or being hired.

What changes the price

Lawn size and slope matter most. Trimming around fences and beds, clearing clippings and how often the grass is cut all change the time the job takes.

Whose mower it is matters too. A helper who brings their own equipment is saving you the trouble, and that is reasonable to reflect in the price.

One-off or regular

A regular weekly or fortnightly cut is easier to plan. On Flyer, booking the same person again is cheaper: the service fee drops for repeat bookings.

If you are the one mowing

Measure the time for a typical lawn, include trimming, and price so the job is worth doing every week. List the equipment you use on your flyer, and add photos of your work.

You set your own price and hours on Flyer, and you keep the full price. The service fee is paid on top by the person hiring.

How booking works

  1. Find a flyer. Browse young people by job, price and availability, and read their reviews.
  2. Send a request. Pick a day and time. A card is needed, but nothing is taken until they accept.
  3. They accept or decline. Nothing is confirmed until they accept. Your card is charged then, and your street address is shared.
  4. Approve the finished job. They tap On my way and Start, then finish the job. You approve it and the money is released to them. Tipping is optional.

How Flyer keeps jobs safe

Flyer does not run criminal record checks, and it does not guarantee any job. Use the same judgement you would use hiring any neighbour’s kid. Read the safety rules in full.

Questions

How much should I pay for someone to mow my lawn?

Look at a few flyers: each young person sets their own price and you see it before you send a request. Say how big the lawn is and whether you want trimming so the price fits.

Do they bring their own mower?

That depends on the flyer and what you agree in a message. Many list their equipment on their flyer.

Can I book the same person every week?

Yes. You can book them again from their profile, and repeat bookings carry a lower service fee.

Who can mow lawns on Flyer?

Teens aged 13 and up can put up a flyer. Some jobs, like heavy power tools, are limited by age.
